AUTOMATION IN 3D - FASTER TO PRODUCTIVITY

Many of you have told us that the requirements made to production lines and their installation in automotive plants have become even tougher in the past few months. Here are some examples:

• Dramatic reduction of installation times for assembly lines with a view to reduce product life cycles - 26 weeks from start of integration to SOP.
• A mushrooming increase in the number of cross-over variants SUV convertibles, micro-MPVs, small pick-ups and new multi-drive platforms each with a percentage share that is hard to assess
• Strict cost reduction in processes and hardware while at the same time increasing safety standards for plants and workers

On the other hand, production works at the limits of modularity already today – with all collateral effects:

• installations with a high degree of complexity that leaves hardly any room to the robot for operation,
• distances of only a few millimetres between parts moved at high speed and distances to cross of several metres in the welding process for one robot,
• weights and mass inertias that take the robot ax lies and floor fixtures to the limits,
• maintenance, modifications or optimizations using methods from minimal invasive surgery.

In a nutshell: space is scarce, production and installation times are becoming more expensive, components and systems must become smaller, lighter and cheaper. This way, systems that were conceived as cost-efficient and flexible soon turn into mere money sinks. This set-up can only be optimized when we dare to look for new paths and dimensions. Unused potential is not only hidden below the ceiling of the shop floor.
